Luckily one day. I was in at the dollar store and i stumbled upon this toolkit maybe i was at office depot. I was on clearance. But i don t think i pay any more than five dollars for this tool kit and it just happens to have the right torx bit that fits in these holes.
Because these holes are not standard screw holes. So lucky me i took event. I hopped on that opportunity to get some torx screws that i never really thought i d ever use i don t know boy will boy. Am.
I happy that bottom each one taking you into school shop commune use the scroll you will come out yeah. And i think on the last one i took apart they weren t all the same not all hard drives are equal this one s a old c8. So far all these screws have been the same probably should have a you know tested this beforehand. But what kind of a wing.
It penta guy and i m just taking this off so i could scratch up the drive. It s neat in the last one. I had the hard drive is made of some kind of material that wasn t that easily scratched. It was impressive felt like i found some extraterrestrial material.
Okay so now we re running into a little problem. Here. These screws are not like the top screws. So now i need to find that a bit well put this one a nice special spot that looks this one worked see about this one i can luck and the first no.
But it s pretty close you know when i bought these screw this torque stick. I felt like i was in like i had a movie moment where it said you ll need these someday in the future probably making a bigger deal out of this than. I said anybody could buy it pick up torque screws but i got for like 1 to 5 bucks aha. I found one that works yes.
Some different screws are on the bottom the barriers to entry. You know maybe i ll slide this into view here. It s a tough set. It s pretty slick deal gotta have a capital to deploy when the super deal comes along screws.
I doing with a 28 car drive anyway. Right yeah. So phone call just came and interrupting. My video.
Let s see what i just took off this thing here hmm. This is like the i guess control board. I don t know the real name for it but and let s see the top right here take it off. I ll just tell some more sneaky stuff.
Here well. I just damaged that there ah so this stuff comes off well this reveal more no no other screws there hmm well. I remember how i got this off it eventually. But i had to pry it in style was it the other one and by what is the following day.
There is that s the inside of our driving craziness before i think this debt that barn trip get in bed. But here s what s fascinating about these to me what s so fascinating about this is uh. It s like i can t scratch. It um look at this shook the sharpness of this and i m trying my best to the scratch deck at it here the sound effects.
Yeah. Nothing it s like made of actually internet. This one did kind of scratch. But it s barely a scratch.
It s like made of into a foam material that just won t scratch press. I m pretty good on here. I m pretty sure this is jacking up the the hard drive. But you know with my naked eye.
I this one scratching a lot easier and this is an older drive than the one i did a couple days ago. Which is not on camera. I had to really scratch hard to scratch in the newer one i m impressed with whatever they used to make this i felt bad that i m scratching this up too. Because and i even feel bad that i got to get rid of it because this is a really cool looking device who the heck would have thought this would work you know that that this head reads information.
How how is that pot. I want that you know maybe i ll just start keeping these little heads. And just hang them on the wall. They look so cool.
I don t know how to get this part out because i can each unscrew that this kind of move. I don t know but but the material. This is made of it just feels cool looks like a then this looked like a like a platinum record. You know the way the plaque is it s cool.
But got a scratch it up you got a bit really but i think human beings invented this technology i mean john von neumann conceived the idea of stored program and supposedly could divide eight digit numbers in his head. There s some super smart people back in the day. And i m just making a movie about alan turing. I want to see a movie about john von neumann.
It s amazing. How like you never hear about him in history. And he was involved in like every single secret project from the manhattan project to the philadelphia experiment to the montauk project. John von neumann and inventing basically getting credit for inventing the computer.
You know you don t hear about nikola tesla. And john von neumann and they re like they made the two most important inventions from the 20th century. And i i m stretching the daylights out of a man and it s really not scratch. This is some woman pantheon space material.
This is probably what the crash flying saucers in roswell were made of and i m about to throw this thing out throwing out special flying saucer material. Anyway. I m after they like do this up on scratch and harder. But um and you know i m gonna guaranteeing what i m doing here is really destroying the data.
But it s reducing the amount of people that could possibly extract any information off this this is crazy scratching not even scratch it in the italian. This is a this is an artifact from outer space. I don t know how you could possibly enjoyed this video. Because it took apart a hard drive and i m not even destroying it correctly as much scratching as i did the most effective was right there how you see many scratches on the rest of this.
But what i did do is when i do get rid of this this part is not going to be in the same garbage can and i think this is what you need and i think you have at the same parts for the same model to be able to resurrect them. Although you know i think some of the information is suspect out there because this thing seems really resilient be honest. This is like this is i m gonna build a house up out of this stuff fortress all right if you like and subscribe to this that s your option. I hope something about this video is useful if i can find these torch this is called tech pro tools and i said this was bought on clearance somewhere for either dollar maximum five dollars.
There s no way i paid any more than five. And it came with all these little and i just happen to get lucky you know that i was my other bit because i got a couple more of these i need to take part alright. register. So what is in our 1.
Is it the same as what s in our 2 and that will have opcode to 0..
We compare a register with a value so is that what is in our 7 equal to 0 or not and that would be opcode 21 and they look what we want to branch. So we can branch. If the compare was equal we do that with 30 if it was greater than is a 3 1. With less than it s 3 to branch.
Always just branch off to another part of memory. It s going to be 3 3. I ve just i ve labeled these 3 0. 3.
1. 3. 2 3. 3.
Because i want it when you design your own cpu architecture. You can put whatever opcodes in here that you like so i ve added in a few more we ve got some add and we ve got some subtracts a value from a register of original register. So take away 1 from whatever is in register. 5.
Or sorry add 1 2 inch to 5 or add what is in register. 5 to register. 6. And the same for subtraction and again for 0 for 2 for 1 for 3 and i ve defined them there and then i ve got two more miscellaneous instructions.
No op. Which literally does nothing and that s good for just filling things in particularly when i was testing the code doing to make sure that it branched to the right place. I could put in some no op operations that do nothing and so it just moves it down further in the memory. So i can see that i ve jumped to another place in memory and that f f f.
F. F. F f f. And then halt which will cause the cpu just to stop is opcode fe.
So i ve said what if you put in fe. Fe. Ff. Then that will give you the cpu will halt and that gives us this very tiny table here of the things that are in our cpu instruction architecture.
We ve got load instructions here we ve got store instructions..
Here and here are all the opcodes here is what the second byte is meant to be and here is what bytes 3 4. Are meant to be here s the compare here s the branch and so on so there is little table of the instruction there with those instructions like that you can actually write a little program that will loop around it will write addresses it ll read from addresses. It will do some adding and subtraction will compare and it can loops you can actually get a very simple program running in just those number of instructions so of course. There s lots missing.
There s no multiplier. There s no divide. There s no idea at all of the carry what happens. When you add something to a number and it goes beyond 16 bits.
There s no shift operations. There s no and there s no or there s no make so there s a whole bunch of stuff. That s missing. There s no ideas yet of subroutines where you can branch off and then return to where you were i ve done nothing to do with a stack.
We can t push things on a stack or return things from a stack. We can t clear any of the flags that are set when you do a comparison. We ll talk more about this when we come to look at the implementation of the cpu. So there s so much more you can do.
But this just gives you this initial taster of what there what you can do in the very first round of defining your instruction set so part. 2. Now is to build an assembler. I ve done back in python so it takes a sin blee mnemonics that we re gonna define that says load store compare branch and we can define that however we want and it converts it into those instructions or whenever.
It sees a load into register. 1. However we ve defined that in kind of a simple programming language it will create 0 0. 0.
1. Whatever is the correct opcode that we ve just defined and then we need to write a cpu this assembler will produce a binary and this cpu loads that binary into memory and starts executing those codes. I ve also done that in python. So we can see how you can emulate.
