“The last episode. We made the 249 mile journey upriver from manaus to derrick la. La. A tiny fishing village on the banks of the rio negro in amazonas brazil.
Pia barrels of derrick hua specialize in collecting ornamental fish. We were thrilled at the opportunity to observe their methods and witnessed the wealth of biodiversity in this region of the amazon over the next several days. We snorkel in the rich black water streams. And discovered how the small village makes a living collecting beautiful fish for your aquarium come along with us you won t believe what we find we just arrived at derek wah for lunchtime.
The midday sun is extremely hot. So we re all hanging out in the shade for a little while the white sand is just beautiful and it squeaks when you walk on it we re gonna relax a little while and then about three o clock. We re gonna go up into one of these little channels and have a snap around see what we can find dance got some piranha. Honestly how does it taste jamie s got some peacock bass egg do you eat outside too this is where they keep most of their cardinal touches right now they have twenty thousand in here.

We re about to go out on our first little fishing experience here got our snorkels our masks. We got everything ready to go let s go see what we can find to go on our first try at fishing. There s jesus ten minutes and their catch. They re just pulling up this after fish.
They re just taking more branches off the bottom and putting them up on the boat and checking out what s in them popping them in that little bit right there. We ve been snorkeling for about ten minutes and they pulled up this. Ella 183 look at that beautiful no it s a meal. Okay once you put it in the water you can see l.
It s it s a male. It s a male that s a female they re seen why aren t they collecting these they don t get paid enough to catch these 183 is there everywhere big nice big size and they just they just don t get paid enough to to catch them so they don t they pass them up for something else this one the one we just hit picture right here yes. This corner. What is it not your kindness don t they just take a chunk of wood and great fish come on him a little knife or a little players and they pull pieces of the waterway to get at the fish or the pleco pull up some tree branches and we re looking in the there s a catfish right there back in the water.

There s another one right there there was a big predicate club right over that log. But he s hiding pretty good yeah okay here he was this big okay i think he s hiding down. There now what was that fish we just saw and how big was it he just kind of sat there and watched us. I m waiting to get stung by one of these bugs flying on my head.
Whenever i come up first of all it s been pretty awesome listing a lot of species and a lot of species they don t collect because they get paid very little yet everybody wants them in the trade the hobbyists the breeders. There s automotive things down here. I don t even know what that works so i couldn t believe how easy it was to find so many different kinds of fish under every log you just run your hand underneath it between the log in the sand. And you can just feel they re just piled under there it s incredible and so many species that we sell and so many more that we would like to get there s kritika claw waru 183 raphael catfish those were jake we re catfish stuff.
I didn t even know was i see i thought we were gonna have to really search and look for things. But they re just everywhere. We are so excited for the next three days. We went today we went not just just to run on that corner there right.

But what did you catch for dinner p. Tanya yeah free time they have a wolf this year they caught it they ll give you a nasty time they want us to be very careful apparently they caught in arowana so we re gonna we re gonna check it out fishermen just came back from catching dinner and they have this arowana the guys when i caught dinner they re just cleaning it for us there s not much light no suns going down. But i m gonna try and show you some of what they caught her on yo. We got piranha for dinner.
They just caught him about two hours ago. Lana s favorite part is the i don t you find the best fish. I ve ever eaten besides my god i bet. If he had had a few more copper in yes.
He would have went for that that tongue at the as if a the other day lots of bones after dinner that night. We watched a storm pass in the distance flashes of lightning illuminated. The rain forest and the river at our doorstep.
