The words descend into the the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and barrel craft equipment pilots and outsmart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs volcanoes cave systems and more all while trying to survive yes guys it s subnautica. It is out now now this is my third kind of review of this game. I reviewed it when it first came out in very very early access.
I revisited that a year later which was exactly a year ago this month. And here i am three years later with my final review of the game. As it s now pretty much finished a lot has changed in the last year since i played this game. It s had a lord of polish.
A lot of new monsters. I still never got topless mermaids like so down. But i did get the leviathans that i asked for so we ve got these and i m not taking credit for the leviathans by the way. But i did ask for them.
But i m sure they re gonna put them in anyway. But hey we have big sea monsters little sea monsters lots of sea month. It s dangerous guys like i said in my initial review. Why anybody would go in an ocean filled with all this is beyond me.
But hey. It s a game. So we can and that s what makes this game so good it s something that you would never do unless you re australian of course in real life so i m enjoying it i m really enjoying it i m gonna pretend you ve never seen me other two reviews of this so basically you re a spaceship guy here. Agura nearly and you re in a spaceship.
The spaceship gets in the serious trouble you eject in the escape pod you re skip portal land and i m not gonna post. Any major spoilers in this game in this review by the way guys you this all happens in the first few seconds. You land in the sea well. It s on this planet.
That s pretty much all see there are a few islands around. But it s mainly all sea and there you are floating on your escape pod you wake up it s on fire you put it out with the fire extinguisher and then it s right down to business. You have to repair your little escape pod you then have to get yourself a with food water and a weapon. Now the only min weapon in this game is a knife.
It s very green pc in the sense that you don t go around with underwater harpoon guns. And that which which i m disappointed out i would have loved to have torpedoes underwater lethal guns. But you do get a status go and you do get traps as well that you can put down. But generally speaking you have in knife.

That is the only lethal weapon in this game. Which is this year because pretty much everything else has little teeth lots of them and they are happy to sink them into your testicles. So you get your replicator well. It s a fabricator on online.
And you then have to start survive. And you need food and water that s your first priority. So you dive out of your little escape pod into the oceans. My goodness guys.
It is lush it is amazing. It is gorgeous. It is just the whole way they ve done this it looks gorgeous the graphics look amazing the way the sun rays just change the water in the shallows to like a greeny color. And it just looks.
So damn good you want to see it on video on vr you will be you ll get a certificate on vr. It is just amazing unformed a vr at the end. But yeah vr vr vr anyway. Let s not talk for you so.
Anyway. You ve got to find water. Now you get food and water pretty much from the fish and you coop the fish on your fabricator now if you find salty and cure. The fish which i don t mean cue them of disease.
You just like cue them. Which allows them to last a lot longer before they cool rotten. So you can plan for longer journeys and longer journeys guys is the name of the game with sub naught again it is a massive single player exploration game. You have to find out why your spaceship crashed and get the hell off this planet by building.
Some sort of rocket that that ll get you away from the surface now like i said i m not gonna post any spoilers. But there is an alien race. Which you d know about anywhere from from the off on this planet. And you have to pick up clues that you find around this this the seabed and in various places of wreckage and you explore the whole place and you find underwater caverns bases and all kinds of stuff to explore with clues and technology and you can create this scanning machine.
Which will scan technology. So you then get the blueprint for that and you can then make whatever that is and that s the beauty of subnautica you can make bases you can make big submarines you can make tiny little submarines. You can make them awkward glance. That you just hold in front of you that have a propeller on you can make different suits.

You can make a mack suit that you can walk across the bottom with jetpacks it ll get you around the place you make flippers radiation suit you can make a ton of tools you do get some weapons you get a status gun. Which will freeze in place an enemy. If it s coming for you so basically the the crafting is huge in this game. There are tons of stuff to craft and the world is pretty huge in this it s not hugely massive compared the games that are basically on land because if you think about it on land.
It s a hell of a lot easier to make a massive landmass. But to get the attention to detail that these guys have done underwater guys. It s just blowing it ll blow your mind it blows your mind you feel like you re underwater. It s just amazing and there s all kinds of creatures under here i m not going to show you all of them because that would spoil it but i m gonna show you some of the more fruity varieties guys there are stuff that scare the out of you you just you know you re scuba diving along and then you just hear this unearthly.
Roar. And you turn round little is this huge beastly thing just coming for you it s it s scary this game. But it s so atmospheric. It is so immersion filled this game.
And that s what i like about it that s why i like this game because it does make you feel like you are underwater on an alien world you don t feel like you re underwater in the the earth because of the kinda creatures that you see. But there are familiar things like coral and and little fish like that that you might recognize. But a lot of it is just pure alien stuff and it is just beautiful to look at it it s absolutely beautiful. Some say that it should have co op.
I mean the submarine for example that you build the cyclops is supposed to be a three man sub and when you re piloting that you kind of need three people while it s it only you can get by by yourself running backwards to the torpedo bay. Then to the lights and then put it into silent running and all that and you know all that kinda stuff would be great with a few play people. But i m not sure whether this game would suit co op. I would like co op as an option to player.
But i think it works best as a single player game and the devs have announced that they are probably not gonna do co op for this which. Which is a bit of a shame. I just hope the fix for yeah. I m gonna talk a little bit about vr now it looks amazing on the oculus rift.
But the inventories too close and i m having issues selecting stuff because it uses mouse controllers you know. But you can t see the mouse pointer. So it needs fixing vr is pretty broken. But it is great to just dive in in vr and just swim around and in creative.
More and just say that the amazing beauty and splendor of it all as for the other modes well you ve got your standard survival mode. Where you have to watch your oxygen what s your health. What s your thirst and what s your hunger now i ve shown bits of both in this video review. Because i wanted to show you creative mode.

Which is basically it switches all the dangerous stuff off and just lets you build like crazy. And you can build in this game. You can build these underwater bases and just deck them out with different machines. That s inside them actually every single one of them.
But they re really cool and they really help you in the game. And one of the things like i said at the very beginning of the review you re constantly searching for things you re searching for hidden caves. That will have technology inside it s all about exploration. The whole game is a big exploration game.
If you don t explore you won t find what you need to find to get off the planet. So what s all it encourages you to explore all the time. And it is very dangerous out there as well so you need to be equipped you need to be equipped with enough food and water to be able to get back you need the right suit you need the right gear. You need the right tools.
I mean sometimes you re gonna need the weld you way through doors that are just locked should in order to get in to find data parts and other things like that so it does have a story it s very story based in that sense. But it doesn t have a a big story in other words you re not constantly hit with this story. You ll find most of the time you ll be collecting things to survive. So.
If you don t like survival games. You re not gonna like this if you thinking. That s a big story game with exploration. It isn t it s more of a survival game than anything else replayability on this well i m not sure i m not sure about how much replayability is gonna be on this game.
I think once you ve completed it i don t think you ll want to go and complete it again it can get a little bit tedious. We ll talk a bit about the bad now. It can t get a bit tedious just constantly going to try and find food and water. But the sheer beauty of the world makes it bearable because it s just gorgeous and you you re constantly finding new you re finding new.
So i ve never seen that before i ve never seen this before there s so much to see so much to see underwater. That s the beauty of this game. It is easily easily worth the asking price despite the fact that it still has a few books. The main one that i don t like is the topping of the graphics is just swimming along especially if you re moving fast.
They re just kind of a pierre in and the you ll see the land morph. It s not rendering quickly enough for yourself. As you as you move and i m running at ten seventy with 32gig. It should be it should be able to cope with that it needs a bit more optimisation.

But hopefully i ll get that the devs haven t abandoned it or anything like that it s being released today. But they are still going to be optimizing the game they ve set so they re gonna keep crunching and stuff like that this game is early access done right guys. It s been an early access. I think for four years.
The developers have said look this is the game when it s ready we re going to release it to put it back a few times because they ve brought it out for the consoles which kind of sucks for the pc players. Because we ve had a weird a little bit longer. But at the end of the day. This is the kind of game that i want console players to say because this is a great game and console.
Players don t get many good games. They all get copy and pasted so this is nice for them to see a decent survival game. I don t know how i ll play on a console. But it does have controller support.
So i d imagine it ll play fine and this one has full controller support. Not just a little bit. So i m a serial run look and play grid. There are long loading times.
But i ve noticed have come down over the last week. I don t know if the developers have done something. But it s not as bad as it was just a few weeks ago. So i don t really have a lot of bad to say about it just up optimization a few books.
The vr thing needs a lot more work. But you know it s not really targeted at vr people even though it s advertised as having to be also get that fixed so there you go guys subnautica. I didn t want to spoil. It i didn t want to put too much info in about endgame stuff.
And the answer of partly you know just there s this stuff big stuff. And that s gonna be much more fun when you find it yourself and ducklings. ” ..
