Computers for sending us this machine to our youtube channel. They operate here in australia and specialize on selling used computers and accessories through the website and ebay store. I will refer to them throughout the video as we work with this computer. And if you want to check out what i have to offer there are links down below in the video description.
The computer comes with free shipping. They re using australia post. Which is nice and there s also no surcharges for people like me living in western australia or in regional areas. The computer was well protected.
I had no issues everything worked fine. These are used machines so there are minor marks or scratches on the unit. One of the rubber feet went missing. But that happens easily i just put some new ones on there you can get them from ikea.
For example at the rear. There was a case screw missing. But also that s an easy fix it comes with an intel core i5 2400 quad core processor. We ve got 4 gigabytes of ddr3 memory and a 250 gigabyte sata hard drive at the front of the unit.
We can see the optical drive there s a spare three and a half inch drive bay. We ve got four usb to ports microphone headphone and the power button and at the rear of the unit. We can see four expansion slots. We will check them out in more detail later we ve got six usb 2 ports.
There s a gigabit ethernet port from intel. We ve got a displayport connector vga serial ps2 anti connection for the power supply. The hard drive has been wiped clean. There was no operating system installed.
But we get a windows 7 professional license. This is really flexible as we could for example downgrade to windows xp and turn this into a retro gaming machine. But today..
.
We re going with something more modern officially. The machine has support for windows vista. 7. And 8.
But we re just going to install windows 10 although the free upgrade to windows 10 has officially expired. We didn t have any issues just enter the windows 7 license key from the sticker on the side of the pc and windows. 10 was activated just fine when you turn on the machine. You can press f9 to enter the boot menu and f10 gets you into the bus now let s upgrade the graphics the integrated intel hd graphics is fine for anything but gaming to open the machine just remove the case screw at the back and open the cover kanan computers do clean this computers inside and outside and there wasn t a speck of dust inside.
Which is very nice there are actually quite a few upgrade options. I will touch on this later. But for now we re just upgrading the video card we re going to use the nvidia geforce gt 1030 this is a great fit for this machine it is low profile compatible consumes only 30 watts of power. It is single slot.
And so you can use all the other three expansion slots. And it offers really good value you can get one of these for just under 100 australian dollars. I went with the version from gigabyte. They do have a passively cooled version.
But the cooler is quite large and does take up two slots. So i think this model is the way to go. It also has a fan which helps with the cooling. So let s check out a few games now usually on this channel.
We re working with all the games and there will be a few of those as well. But let s check out some of these modern triple a games. And how they run on this machine first up. We have return of the tomb raider the game runs at 1080p and we also have msi afterburner running on the top left corner giving us some extra information.
We can see that in this game. The video card is maxed out and the processor is running idle. So these modern triple a games are a little bit too much for the gt 1030. The processor.
However is capable of more we re running at low settings in the game is quite playable at around 30 to 40 fps. If we lower the resolution to 720p it gets us much closer to 60 fps. But in many scenes the gt 1030 is still not quite fast enough to get us there the next game is doom and we re running at 1080p once again all the details have been set to low and we re getting around 30 fps. Most of the time some of the loading times a little bit long of notice.
But otherwise there weren t any issues now doom is a game that you really want to play at 60fps and if we switch down to 720p it gets us there most of the time. But just like with rise of the tomb raider. It doesn t get us there all the time the next game is pray and this game. Seems to run a little bit better once again we re running at 1080p with the details all set to the lowest setting and we re getting between 30 and 40 fps and at least in the beginning of the game.
This seems to be quite. Playable and this is the search. This is also running at 1080p with low details..

But i did increase the resolution scaling to 100 this game. Seems to be more demanding than the others and we are only getting around 20 fps and then we have to esports games. The first one is dota. 2.
I didn t have a clue how to play it so i just observed someone else playing and we re getting around the 60 fps mark the graphics settings that was all maxed out so there s a lot of headroom if you want to get more than 60 fps or want to make sure that you get 60 fps. All the time just lower. The details a little bit. And this is rocket league and initially.
I got really good performance in the tutorials everything maxed out. But once you go online and you play an actual game. I had to set the settings to performance. But once at that setting we re getting constant 60fps locked.
Which is really what you want for these multiplayer games and of course for a budget gaming machine. You ve got to look out for budget games. Check deals on steam or gog add some games to your wishlist. And what a sale comes along you can pick them up for under.
10. A classic racing game is grid of maxed everything out no anti aliasing and it runs silky smooth at 60 fps locked looking at the cpu and gpu load. Both are running a little bit idle. So there s plenty of headroom return to castle.
Wolfenstein also runs silky smooth at 60fps locked. There s a community patch that i ve used that adds. Widescreen and 4k support and the game still looks pretty nice considering how old it is half life. 2 is another classic it supports 1080p out of the box.
I maxed everything out. But no anti aliasing and once again silky smooth at 60fps and this is bioshock infinite an absolutely gorgeous looking game. I set all the details too high we re running at 1080p and although sometimes it does run at 60fps. But most of the time it drops down to 30fps so this is still quite a demanding game.
But at these settings. It looks gorgeous and it s very playable now this seems to be a great budget gaming pc. But does it run crysis. Still quite demanding.
The ultimate retro stress test. And here. We have crysis running at 1080p with everything maxed. Out high details directx 10.
And it gives the gt 1030 a really nice workout of turned off motion blur because i really can t stand it but everything else is switched on so let s talk about some of the upgrade options the power supply this machine is around 200 watts. So that limits what you can do however. I used my power measuring device and under idle the machine..

Only pulls around 30 watts sitting on the desktop and playing rise of the tomb raider at settings. That stress both the cpu as well as the video card. We re getting a power reading of just under 100 watts. So that s excellent so we could go with something faster maybe like a ge x 1050.
Or 1050 ti. But that might be something for a future video apart from the graphics card ideally you want to have 8 gigabytes of ram and a solid state drive okay and then computers actually sell such upgrades for 35 australian dollars. You can get 8 gigs of ram and for 120 australian dollars. You can get a 256 gigabyte ssd.
Now if you want to do your own upgrades. This is really easy to do the power supply and the drives they just flip to the side and you get access to everything looking at the data sheet you can take the ram up to 16 gigabytes. And you can even upgrade the processor. The fastest that it can take is the core i7 2670 smashing getting upgraded.
Maybe some more ram and ssd or a better video card let me know i ll relay the information to care and and computers. And maybe we can make it happen so the summarize at the hp elite 8200. Small form factor is terrific value the entire pc costs about the same as a rison 3 processor and performs just as fast at achieve falls. 1030 gt.
And you got yourself a great budget gaming machine that can run all the latest games. Although you will have to set the details too low most esports games should also work just fine and slightly older games. That you can pick up during steam sales run. Really well on this machine and of course the core i5 handles non gaming tasks just fine like authors netflix internet or facebook.
